Comrades Marathon

It is the oldest and largest, and possibly the most well known ultra marathon in the world. It is held in South Africa and takes runners through 56 miles. This highly popular marathon draws in runners from over 60 countries, with more than 20,000 runners participating in this annual race.

Runners go through the hills known as the “Big Five”, three of which occur within the first half of the race, and must complete the trail within 12 hours. Knowing how to tackle the hills and not overexerting yourself early is pivotal to completing this race.
