Elisha and the Bears, 2 Kings 2: 23-24
If there was ever any doubt that God is vengeful and answers the prayers of those devoted to him the story of Elisha will clarify. Elisha was a pious and Godly man and considered one of the most revered figures in the Old Testament. The incident with the bears was out of character for Elisha and shocked many.
Elisha was walking past a group of children who teased him, calling him bald and other names. Elisha cursed the children in the name of the Lord and two bears came out of the woods. The bears mauled 42 children on behalf of God and Elisha. Many people dislike this passage because it shows Elisha as a man who gives in to vengeful thoughts and children die because of his anger.
