The Concubine, Judges 19
Another unnamed woman in the Old Testament is the Levite’s concubine. This story is considered to be one of the most disturbing passages in the Old Testament. There are components of rape, sodomy and violence, and in the end the concubine is used to bring the people of 12 nations together.
A man, known as the Levite and his concubine are traveling and seek lodging with a good Samaritan. While they are eating together, the house is surrounded by men who want “to know” the Levite, which in the Bible generally refers to things of a sexual nature. The host convinces the men to leave the Levite alone, and gives them his own daughter and the concubine instead. The concubine is killed and her body is chopped up with parts being sent throughout the land.
