Balaam and his Donkey, Numbers 22:21
Balaam was a sorcerer who was hired by a king to curse the Israelites. In the night God warned him not to curse the Hebrews, and he considered not going, but in the end he left with a set of the king’s messengers. While traveling to curse the Israelites Balaam’s donkey saw an angel on the path and stopped.
Balaam beat the donkey for turning and refusing to continue down the path because he did not see the angel. Then God spoke through the donkey’s mouth asking why Balaam had beaten it. Balaam argued with the beast until the Lord opened his eyes to see the angel. Only then did Balaam repent and go with the king – not to curse the Israelites but to give them God’s blessing.
