Although most would be terrified with this 2008 encounter, an unidentified swimmer who was surrounded by a school of leopard sharks, seemed to have handled the encounter quite well. This incident was caught on film by a news helicopter and shows the swimmer at Marina del Rey oblivious of the sharks before spotting them and heading for the shore.
Leopard sharks are considered to be harmless but there has been one attack reported. The swimmer in this case, though probably shaken up quite a bet, managed to make it to shore unharmed and without any injury.
