Rochester
What really makes Rochester’s homicide rate so high? Most of the reported shootings in the city aren’t fatal, but the repetition of the crime underscores the severity of the city’s violent crime problem. Current FBI data shows the city’s violent crime rate is 9.76 per 1,000 residents, 53.22 for property crimes and 62.98 per 1,000 residents of total reported crimes.
It is true Rochester isn’t the national murder capital. However, it does one of the highest rates per capita in the New York State. It also features in the top four among the 40 US cities with the highest number of homicides.
