Schenectady has one of the highest crime rates of any city in America. The city is in close proximity to NY’s state capitol of Albany – ranked seventh in this list. This problem, the police say, has been attributed to poverty and disposed youth.
With a population of 66,631, Schenectady’s violent crimes rate was reported to be 9.40 per 1,000 residents, while property crimes stood at 42.44 per 1,000 residents. Total reported crimes rate was 51.84 per 1,000 residents with the chance of becoming a gunshot victim said to be one in 19.
