God promised that Abram would be the ancestor of many nations, but there was just one problem: Abraham did not have any children. He had a son, Ishmael, with his wife’s slave, Hagar, but he sent the two of them away to keep his wife happy. God told Abram that his wife, Sarah, would also have his child, but the couple had doubts because Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 100.
Abraham saw three messengers from God, he fell down to worship them and was told by one of the men that Sarah would have a son in the next year. Sarah overheard this prophecy and she laughed. Regardless of Sarah’s lack of faith, she did become pregnant and had a son within the next year. Abraham named his son Isaac.
