Families in Kentucky have become increasingly reliant on food assistance programs with the number of dependent people rising to 18%. In 2012 it was found that 25% of the state’s children lived in poverty situations, or 1 out of every 4 children.
On a positive note, progress is being made and unemployment rates have dropped by 1.1%. There is hope that the staggering numbers that have placed Kentucky at number 5 on the list of states with the highest poverty, will improve.
