Top 10 States with the Most Poverty

With a population just over 2 million, approximately 426,000 people live in poverty putting New Mexico’s poverty level at 20.8% as of 2012. That is an increase from 18.6% in 2000.

Drops in public jobs, such as in research and healthcare facilities, has dropped almost 3% severely impacting the unemployment rate. The numbers are expected to get worse as more cuts happen in the future to government positions.
