Fight Test
Cat Stevens, a 1970 singer and songwriter, sued the band The Flaming Lips for their track “Fight Test” which was the opening track on their 2002 album. Stevens claimed it was too similar to his 1970s hit, “Father and Son”. The lead singer of The Flaming Lips even went on record and did interviews apologizing to Stevens, basically admitting to ripping off the original track.
It is believed that the Flaming Lips singer simply changed a few “bits and pieces,” and tried to pull it off as an original. Stevens eventually won the lawsuit claim, and was awarded 75% of the song and the record’s royalties.
