Windsurfer Circle at Candlestick Point
The shoreline of this beach is just across from the San Francisco 49ers stadium, and although polluted is still frequently visited – more for walking than swimming. There are considerable toxins below the water’s surface, which are among the reasons Windsurfer Circle continues to be one of California’s dirtiest beaches.
The National Resources Defense Council classifies Windsurfer Circle as the third-most contaminated beach in California, and it was shown to include bacteria which surpass safe bacterial limits when undergoing testing. Its high levels of bacteria resulted in the beach being shut down for 29 days until it reached the NRDC’s standards.
