Top 10 World’s Hardest Hikes

Inca Trail in Peru

You don’t have to hike to visit Machu Picchu, Peru, but if you do, you will follow the Inca Trail. This trail is actually three trails which overlap, with the two longer routes including a climb of 13,800 feet above sea level. The trail is an overall hike of 20 miles and usually takes hikers four days to complete.

While hiking the Inca Trail, you are able to view historic settlements, tunnels, and Inca ruins. The biggest payoff for the upward and difficult hike, however, is the ending at Machu Picchu mountain. Because this trail is among the most challenging, the first day of the hike is often spent just preparing hikers for the trek.
