Top 10 States with the Most Poverty

Alabama

Not only does the beautiful state of Alabama lead the nation with the highest diabetes ranking and the 2nd highest ranking in obesity, it comes in at number 4 as one of the poorest states on the top 10 list. During the last seven years, Alabama has had a median income more than $10,000 less than the national median.

Because the Gallup state has the lowest property tax in the nation it relies on the money generated from sales tax to feed the revenue. With so many people below the poverty threshold, the amount of money being fed into the revenue is understandably low. This is a domino effect that will be difficult to overcome.
