Michael Waltrip in Bristol
In 1990, Waltrip was involved in an accident in Bristol, during the Budweiser 250. His Pontiac rolled up toward the outside on Turn 2 in an attempt to overtake Robert Pressley. The barrier gave and the car slammed into a concrete wall at speeds of well over 100 MPH. The car shattered, windows came off, everything was damaged, and the car exploded into three pieces.
Although this accident has been referred to as “the most violent single-car crash in NASCAR history.” Because of the nature of the accident, and because for a brief moment, Waltrip was unconscious, onlookers thought for sure that Waltrip was dead. Yet, the driver ended up bruised and nearly unharmed.
