Another villain who has his own theme song, the immediately recognizable The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme); Lord Vader made his debut in the first Star Wars film released in 1977. In an all-black ensemble and an enigmatic face mask, Vader was an arresting figure without saying a word. It soon became evident that he was incredibly powerful, using a mysterious power called The Force. He was also incredibly cruel; he destroyed entire planets full of living beings in his quest for power.
Over the life of the series, the character of Darth Vader was fleshed out, making him a more complex, rich character than originally thought. He was eventually revealed to be the former Anakin Skywalker, father of Luke and Princess Leia. Vader presents a cautionary tale of what it is like to have great ability and power, only to lose it all.
