Coach Huggins Shows a Softer Side
In 2010, West Virginia showed the world what true sportsmanship looks like. As Da’Sean Butler and Brian Zoubek went head to head for the ball, a zig became a zag and both collided with each other. While Zoubek was fine, Butler collapsed to the floor after seriously injuring his knee. Not the type to leave any player behind, Coach Huggins quickly ran to him and held him as he lay on the floor.
While it is unknown exactly what was said at the time, most agree that it was words of encouragement. An injury can be disastrous to an athlete. It can end their career depending on the severity, or bench them for multiple seasons. His tender care of the player at what was probably one of his most frightening moments highlighted the camaraderie that should exist across all sports at all times.
