Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, typically contain a high amount of vitamin C. Much as with broccoli, this can help the body flush out toxins and excess sugar. It also promotes heart health and may help reduce the risk of obtaining diabetes in the first place.
It is important for diabetics to be careful when adding citrus fruits to the diet–some also contain a high amount of sugar, and may cause blood sugar levels to increase. As a general rule, the more sour the fruit the lower the sugar amount. Adding a slice of lemon to a glass of water is a fantastic way to make use citrus without adding more sugar to your diet.
