This beach located in Monterey County, which by itself has a continuing water quality problem. The poor quality of the beach water is attributed to an adjacent storm drain which carries urban runoff from a shopping center and golf course to Stillwater Cove’s beach.
This beach also made Heal the Bay’s “Beach Bummer” list due to high levels of harmful bacteria in the water. It was ranked as the fifth-most contaminated beach in the state of California and is known for its poor beach water quality.
