You really should spend at least two days on the North Shore if possible, in my opinion it’s one of the most amazing places on earth. It’s a little bit country, but really exotic. It’s so relaxing and also extreme. It’s a little bit of everything!
Between the months of October and March within a short 7 mile stretch you have the chance, based on the swell, to see huge world class waves. Spend the day beach hopping along that iconic stretch and watch EVEN PROFESSIONAL surfers up close riding some of the biggest waves in the world.
Pipeline (pictured above), is the most famous wave in the world with barrels the size of semi-trucks. Spectators can feel the beach shake under their feet as surfers put their lives on the line for the thrill of the ride. The large white sandy beach is very family friendly but when the surf is really big, ask the lifeguards where the family will be safe to watch the waves. When the waves are really big, the waves rush up the beach so fast and washes away personal belongings and will even pull people into the ocean. One of the surprising things about Pipeline too is that in the summer it is almost like a lake somedays, the difference is just so interesting.
After a big swell, oftentimes there’s a large pool of water that gets trapped behind the shoreline berm. The pool can be small or large but generally ranges 30-150 feet long, 30-50 feet wide, and 2-6 feet deep providing a large safe pool great for the kids to play in and adults to relax in. Map Website
