In 2006, a ten-year old surfer managed a slim escape when attacked by a great white shark who was lurking extremely close behind him while surfing. Elliot Paereta-Reid only realized the extent of his injuries when he saw a pool of red blood swimming around him. This encounter took place at Auckland Beach, New Zealand.
Although Paereta-Reid only suffered a minor injury to his foot, the shark bite was not something he expected when going out for the day. The surfer vowed to return to surfing as soon as his injuries were healed.
