10 States With the Wealthiest People

Wyoming

Wyoming is a state that you probably wouldn’t think of being on this list. Most people think of this state as very quiet, with large stretches of open area. This state ranks fifth in terms of GDP at $55,516 per capita. One of the reasons Wyoming is considered one of the wealthiest states is because it is very low populated at only 584,153 people, many of which are ranchers and land owners who use their land as a means to make a living. Even so, the economy here is nothing to sneeze at.

Wyoming can attribute much of its wealth to mining, transportation, and real estate industries. However, coal mining is the primary industry contributing to its wealth. They have the top 10 producing coal mines in the United States. Peabody Energy, which is the largest coal producer in the country, operates the coal mine in Wyoming.
