Leg lifts remain one of the best exercises for engaging the muscles in and around the hips. They’re also a fantastic way to trim down your waist, forcing you to engage your lower core. Furthermore, all you need is a comfortable area on the floor–a yoga mat works best.
While you can use a weight machine at the gym, even just doing leg lifts on your own is a great exercise. To start, lay flat on your back with your arms next to your body. Slowly, lift both legs together approximately 6” into the air. Hold this position for 10 seconds, and then release. Be sure to focus on your breathing as you exercise; breathe in as you lift and hold, and out as you release and lower your legs. For newbies, try starting with repetitions of five or 10 and slowly increase this to 20 or even 40 later on.
