Based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings began as a story way back in 1937 intended to be a sequel to the book The Hobbit. The movie became a huge hit when it debuted in 2001 and resulted in many sequels to follow, but was first filmed in 1978.
The Lord of the Rings is one of the best films, and by far the greatest of the trilogy. In this film series, which is paralleled to the books it is titled after, we see the development of Bilbo and everyone in his world. With excellent fight scenes, excellent sequences, exceptional characters and plot lines, and great casting, the film series is not only one of the best in recent years, but does justice to the books as well, which many films don’t.
