Within the confines of Panama City, the ratio of sex offenders to law abiding citizens is 142 to one. As of February 2015 there are 254 registered sex offenders residing within the city limits. Since the end of the last century, crime within the area has been on an intermittent increase. There are 70 crimes committed per 1,000 residents. Those crimes tend to be on the side of the realm of violence.
The most common crimes committed are murder, rape, assault, armed robbery, and arson. Residents are face crimes involving auto thefts, home invasions and general theft. Additional reports indicate that identity theft crimes are currently on the rise within the area and they are being committed against residents across the globe due to the use of modern technologies.
