Orlando
With more than 240,000 residents, the rate of violent crime in Orlando is 11 per 1,000 residents annually. Those within the city limits are more likely to become a victim of a robbery or burglary. Just as most of the cities within the state once known for attracting the aging members of society, the crime rate began to climb in the 1990’s. This is when fewer people were migrating to the area after retirement, but venturing into the state in order to begin their careers and families.
Also, there has been a great increase in immigrants from other countries that are not always legal and able to secure employment. Orlando is also host to great tourist attractions that provide ideal targets for criminals of all kinds. Violent crimes do occur within the city limits, but most law enforcement officials contend that robbery seems to be the city’s primary crime.
