There are seven states in the United States and one territory which allow you to receive a free credit report. If you simply want to look at your credit report, you can ask for it.
If you are a resident of Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Maine, Colorado, Georgia, or Puerto Rico, you qualify for a free credit report, courtesy of your state, in addition to the one you are entitled by federal law. Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont allow one per 12 months; credit reports with Georgia and Puerto Rico are always free.
