There are several different ways that credit cards impact your credit score. If the company pulls your credit (and most of them do) prior to giving you a card, the inquiry may affect your credit score. Your credit score is composed of several different elements – and the number of inquiries in a certain time frame can negatively impact your score. Try not to apply for several cards within a two month period.
If you make late payments to your credit card company they will report that to the credit agencies. Your credit score shows revolving credit accounts along with a payment ranking. The longer you take to pay your bills, the worse it looks on your credit report. Also, more recent late payments may affect your credit score more, especially if you are applying for more credit.
