Keep a File
Make sure to file all of the information and everything you have done. From photos to writing your own version of events, to the police report time, when things were filed, when you called your insurer, and so forth.
Keeping all records will help when it is time to call your insurer for repair needs. It allows you to give them all relevant information they need in order to begin the claims process and preserves information you might forget about later.
