In the event of a flood, the landlord would be responsible for structural damage. But, what if your pricey painting or an antique item you love is ruined? You are not covered and your landlord isn’t liable for these types of items
With renters insurance, you are going to be covered. Not only are you protected, but most policies will have a replacement clause in it, so if something is lost or irreparable, it is possible to have it replaced by the company which you have your renters insurance policy with.
