Buffalo’s 15,740 of total number of crimes reported in 2014 yielded a rate of 60.82 per 1,000 residents. Out of this number, 12.38 per 1,000 residents were reported as violent crimes involving shootings, some of which resulted into deaths according to the Buffalo Police Department, NY. Forbes’ 2014 findings list Buffalo as the 10th most crime-ridden city in the United States.
With 30 per cent of the city’s population below poverty level, the BPD is said to be facing a lot of difficulty trying to control the number of crimes and gang-related activities in the city. however, with intensified gang sweeps, law enforcement agencies have been able to significantly reduce the murder rates to its lowest in a decade.
