Another slippery American gangster, John Gotti managed to evade lawmakers for many years. In some cases, the crimes he committed on the streets were even more violent and ruthless than those committed by Capone. While he did serve a few minor sentences prior to 1972, he always managed to get released within a few years.
After 1972, he joined the Gambino family in New York. It was here that Gotti’s most violent crimes were committed. In late 1985, Gotti stepped it up and decided second-best simply wasn’t good enough. After gunning down leader Paul Castellano, he stepped into a leadership role. After the FBI linked more than 13 murders to him, he was finally put in jail for good.
