Before repairs begin, get your insurer to sign off on all repair work. Let them review quotes, let them see the work being done, and allow them to intervene if needed.

If you aren’t at fault your insurer is more than happy to help, which may not always be the case if you are at fault. Take the help you can get; you do pay for it with your policy premium each month.
