Spartathlon Ultra Race
This marathon runs from Athens to Sparta, Greece and is a 153-mile race. Unlike the other marathons which allow almost a week to complete, this marathon adds the extra requirement of completion of the trail in no more than 36 hours.
In addition to running a race that is the equivalent of six back-to-back marathons, runners encounter olive groves, steep hillsides, and must run up and down the rocky terrain of Mount Parthenio. Plus, running through the night through windy conditions that can bring temperatures down to as low as 38 degrees Fahrenheit, make this a difficult race.
