Arkansas
Since 2008, Arkansas’ median household income has slowly crept from below the depths but not enough to pull this state out of the number 2 slot. With a median income of just $40,000, the great state continues to struggle with a poverty stricken population.
Despite difficulties with the meat market and housing market, Arkansas continues to make gains. With its population at around 2.9 million, the poverty rate sits right around 19.8%.
