Top 10 Songs Sued for Plagiarism

Creep

The hit song, “Creep” was released in 1992 by Radiohead and although not a success at first, became a world-wide hit in 1993. They later ran into trouble, however, when Albert Hammond claimed that the song was too similar to “The Air That I Breathe”, recorded by The Hollies in 1973. It was determined that the song may have been plagiarized because of a verse and melody in the bridge which followed the second chorus.

The successful lawsuit resulted in Hammond and Mike Hazlewood (the composer), winning a settlement and being credited as co-writers of the song, “Creep”. The ruling was that the song was extremely close to the original, without the composer’s approval for use.
