The Can Comfort
Dogs can sense when you are sad or stressed; they will lay down by your side and help to comfort you or ease the pain. Dogs have also been known to sense diseases and comfort family members who are going through health problems. Although cats purr and snuggle, they are most often inclined to just turn their back on you to go sleep in a corner of the house.
Dogs, however, have been known to have the ability to sense when you are not yourself, and do what they can in order to help get you out of the slump and help raise your spirits. It is for this reason that dogs are often preferred pets in places like nursing homes.
